Sandhya grew up in Delhi in a large, sociable family. Raoul was born to an Indian father and Austrian mother who met while studying hotel management in Salzburg. He has grown up in Delhi, Bombay, Kathmandu and Singapore. They studied architecture together in Delhi. Sandhya trained with a well-known resort architect in Goa and spent a semester studying in London. Raoul trained in Austria with an interior design firm and in Singapore with a multi-national architectural firm. Between the two of them, they have visited many countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and America, all of which add up to a smorgasbord of experiences. Raoul is an award-winning amateur photographer. They enjoy cooking for their friends; Sandhya handles the savouries, Raoul the desserts, and their children, Neil and Kyra, keep everybody entertained.
Place Design was established in 2000. Over the years, they have designed many residential, retail, corporate and hospitality projects. Raoul and Sandhya are the sort of architects that like to remain hands-on throughout the project, which is why Place Design is a small, boutique firm that can provide the client with personalised service.
